The remainder pile at the Harvard Book Store is always worth a look. This week: Jonathan Norell & Mr. Strage hardcovers. $8. Understanding Comics $11. And they've selling back issues of the The Believer in the remainder pile also. Seems fitting. So if you're anxious for to shine in the higher esthetic line, as a man of culture rare, and on the cheap, this is where you go.

They also had a big promotion for books devoted to new urbanism, and by the look on the shelves I'd say it was well recieved. They had books by Kunstler, Jane Jacobs, Lewish Mumford, as well as Andres Duany and company. (And a token Corbu title.) A good place to go look at the stacks once in a while.

Yes, that was part of the enlightened discourse on the playgrounds of my grade school years in rural Israel and then in Tel Aviv. Boys in their single digit years tend not to have enlightened political sensibilities. This is how prejudices of that nature are born. What a witch's brew France is turning into.
