While I can't speak for all nerds, his comments on New York resonated with me. There are plenty of nerds employed here, but it's not a nerd-friendly city.
Heh... my mom went to Carnegie Mellon... and Cornell for grad school. I've never been to Pittsburgh myself, aside from the airport, but I can certainly speak for Ithaca... There are some start-ups there... besides the money problem, there's the transportation problem and basic things like the power going out several times a week during a hot summer... Oh, and the issue that there's a bit of a divide between the academic/hippie types and the hicks... In a way, it's a lot like starting up in a lot of developing countries...
