Shaggy-Velma slash.

Isn't Shaggy male, and Velma female? In which case, that's not slash. (Slash implies a same-sex pairing.)

I thought it just implied a sexual relationship that upended perceptions of one character or two.

It started as Kirk/Spock, but you'll find plenty of examples of Slash being used to describe non-canonical sexual relationships. Consider http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shipping_(fandom)

A/B is different from "slash." If you use the word slash, it implies homosexual stuff. That's why a lot of authors write "no slash." They don't mean no non-canonical pairings: they mean they're homophobes.
